Ways To Celebrate Halloween At Home / Spooky Events Around Omaha, NE

by Nancy Heim-berg

Ways To Celebrate Halloween At Home / Spooky Events Around Omaha, NE It goes without saying that Halloween this year looks a bit different than years past. While some families are opting for the traditional celebrations, others are looking for more remote options. In today’s post we are going to be discussing a few ways to conduct your spooky festivities at home, as well as some local celebrations you can attend around the Omaha, NE area. Let’s dive right in!

For a spooky night in:

-One way to celebrate the most haunted night of the year is to have a virtual costume party with family and friends. Not only is this a great excuse to connect with loved ones, but you can spend the time showing off costumes, the spooky decorations around your home and playing games.

-A great way to enjoy the spirit of Halloween is watching a movie - how scary it ends up being is up to you! If you have children, consider dressing them up as their favorite character to add a bit more fun to the evening.

-Nothing says Halloween more than an evening spent decorating pumpkins. For families with children, consider painting pumpkins instead to avoid any carving injuries. Don’t forget to roast the pumpkin seeds for a fun fall snack!

Tips For A Fun And Safe Halloween In Omaha, NE

by Nancy Heim-berg

The spookiest week of the year has finally arrived! Today we have a blog post for all the candy loving, face painting, pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating ghosts and ghouls out there who are looking for a few tips on ways to stay safe this Halloween. We have also included a few can’t-miss Halloween events happening in and around our city in the days leading up to the scary evening!

-Did you know the risk of a child being hit by a car is higher on Halloween night than any other day of the year (according to Safe Kids Worldwide)? Knowing this, it’s important to make sure kids walk on lit sidewalks and always use crosswalks to cross the street.

-Additionally, you may want to think about giving your child a flashlight to carry with them or wearing glow sticks to help make them more visible to drivers.

-When your child gets home from trick-or-treating, help them sort through their sweet goodies and throw away any candy that is not sealed.

-If you have young children, be sure to supervise them while eating hard candy or chewing gum to avoid choking.

-If you are staying home to hand out candy, take a quick look at your front yard and remove anything that may cause a child to trip or slip.

-Even if your family pet is great with visitors, it may be a good idea to keep them away from the front door while handing out candy as the commotion may cause them anxiety/stress – and thus to act out.

-For older kids who go out on their own (this is for parents to review with their kids): Make sure to trick-or-treat in a group and always stay together so no one gets lost, and never go into a stranger’s car or home. Additionally, only approach houses that have porch lights on, have a planned route and agree on a set time they will be home by.
