Save Money on Your Omaha Home Bath Remodel

by Nancy Heim-berg

Is the bathroom in your Omaha home need a bit of a renewal? If you want to spruce up your bathroom without breaking the bank, you're in luck. According to HomeAdvisor, the average bathroom remodel costs $10,354. However, there are ways to achieve a fresh new look for a fraction of that price. Here are some money-saving tips and tricks to consider.

Keep the same layout

Moving the tub, vanity, and toilet to a completely new layout can be quite costly. According to HGTV's Scott McGillivray, each of these items will cost approximately $2500 to move. This expense could potentially exceed your budget and should be taken into consideration before making any decisions.

Do your own tilework

Tiling your own bathroom floor and shower can be satisfying and money-saving. Before you start, it's important to watch tutorials and practice your technique on a piece of MDF with inexpensive tile. This will help you gain confidence and avoid mistakes when working on your wall or floor.

When considering professional installation, it's important to note that opting for large-scale tile can lead to cost savings. According to McGillivray, the complexity of the pattern and the size of the tile both impact installation costs.

Go garage sale-ing

You can find great accessories at garage sales, estate sales, flea markets, or online platforms like Craigslist or Nextdoor. Look out for larger pieces as well, like old dressers that can be transformed into vanities. This not only saves money but also adds character to your space.

Frame it

According to HGTV, adding a frame to a builder-grade mirror not only enhances its appearance but also conceals any signs of wear and tear. Home stager and decorator Karen Gray Plaisted recommends framing mirrors to hide flaking around the edges and give them a more modern look. This affordable solution is a great way to upgrade your mirror without the expense of purchasing a new one.

Resurface

An old tub or shower can show signs of aging over time. Instead of replacing it with new, which can be expensive, consider resurfacing. While this is not typically a DIY project, you can have your tub or shower professionally resurfaced at a much lower cost than buying a new one.

Look for leftovers

Stone yards, tile shops, and contractors often have leftover materials that you can purchase or even obtain for free. Consider asking if they have any countertop remnants that could be a perfect fit for the vanity you are interested in. This approach can save you a significant amount of money, allowing you to afford the vanity without breaking the bank.

How To Jazz Up Your Front Porch For Spring In Omaha, NE

by Nancy Heim-berg

With Spring in full swing, there is no better time to start sprucing up your front porch to create a warm and welcoming entrance for family, friends and guests. And while some people may push this to the bottom of their to-do list as it may seem like a daunting task, we have simplified the process and broken it down to a few simple steps. You will be pleased to find how big of a difference these steps can make in the overall appearance of the exterior of your home. Keep reading below if you want to give your front porch a little Spring makeover!

-The first step is to ensure you are starting with a clean slate. When the weather permits, take an afternoon to do a deep clean of your front porch. Sweep the floor, dust off those pesky cobwebs and give your furniture and accessories a once over to make sure they are still in good condition after a harsh winter.

-Consider adding some greenery to your front porch. Flower boxes, plant beds and container gardens are all items that will not only boost your curb appeal, but also make the entrance of your home feel warm and inviting.

-Don’t be afraid of color! A fresh coat of paint on shutters, trim, doors and railings is a great (and inexpensive) way to update your front porch area. Also, a bold front door is a great statement, and a wonderful way to incorporate a splash of color to the front of your home.

-It’s all in the details. A great trick to adding a modernized feel to your front porch is to incorporate matching fixtures and details such as porch lighting and house numbers. You will be shocked how big of a difference this can make!

-It never hurts to add some new touches to your front porch such as porch railing, walkways and gutters.

-Last but not least, furniture! One way to make your porch feel homey and inviting is to update your outdoor furniture and accessories such as couches, chairs, end tables, rugs and pillows.

Spruce up your exterior with these quick fixes

by Nancy Heim-berg

Is it time for a little face lift for the outside of your home? Are things starting to look a little worn down and dated? If so, today’s blog post is for you! We understand that the maintenance on the outside of your house can sometimes get pushed to the back burner, especially since you may only notice it in passing when coming/leaving. But with a few quick exterior updates, you can give your home a little curb appeal and have it back in tip-top shape in no time.

Dressing up the front door is a great place to start! If your front door is looking a little outdated, splashing a fresh coat of paint on it and adding a decorative wreath will do wonders. You can also incorporate some additional touches such as a welcome mat or festive doorbell cover. Next, if you think that people do not take notice of your mailbox you may want to think again. Sprucing up your mailbox with a fresh coat of paint and/or personalizing it with your last name is a fun and easy way to add a little life to the front of your house.

Another way to bring some flair to the exterior of your home is to add some window boxes underneath the windows in the front of your house. You can purchase a variety of colors and styles of window boxes, as well as plant vibrant flowers such as daises, petunias and marigolds within them. This is a wonderful way to incorporate natural beauty and color to the front of your home without breaking the bank. You also want to be sure to clean out the gutters on your house to make sure that excess water is able to flow away from your home. Spraying them down with a power washer will help to restore the gutters to their original color and make them look new again!
